Annual
Garden
Rhapsodies Tour July 26
Tickets go on sale July 4th for the 13th annual
Garden Rhapsodies Tour that takes place on Saturday, July 26th from
10:00 am-4:00 pm. Visitors
will see unique waterfront gardens, lush plantings of all sizes, colors, and
textures, ground covers crawling over impressive hardscapes and an organic
hilltop oasis. Featured gardens
utilize many Common Sense Gardening techniques such as compost to build
healthy soil, native and drought resistant plants, and the replacement of
toxic pesticides with traps, weed pullers, and other less-toxic methods of
control.
Tickets are $15 and kids under 16 are free.
You can purchase tickets at local nurseries, the Olympia Farmer’s
Market, Olympia Federal Savings branches, Island Market or Yenney’s music.
Tickets include a shuttle bus that travels to each garden in style and
comfort.
Griffin
School
is the shuttle site and community hub
and compost bins will be for sale at that location.
Demonstrations include; composting, ivy removal, irrigation to save
water, tool sharpening and much more! Musicians
and artists in the gardens make this tour unique and provide something for
everyone.
The Garden Rhapsodies Tour is a unique partnership
between the Thurston County Environmental Health Department, the City of
Olympia, Washington State University Master Gardeners, Native Plant Salvage
Project, and the Olympia Symphony Guild.
Thurston
County
and the City of
Olympia
provide educational materials to take home from the tour. Master Gardeners,
Master Recyclers, and Native Plant Salvage volunteers offer tours through the
gardens, and Olympia Symphony Guild offers musicians adding a touch of
rhapsody to the event. In
addition, local groups provide garden-related demonstrations and displays,
while artists add to the ambience, capturing moments in the gardens.
Don’t miss this annual garden event for the
gardener in all of us!
