Preliminary Budget Deliberations Begin
OLYMPIA
--
Thurston County Commissioners have been presented with the draft 2007 budget. The
preliminary budget for next year is set at $418 million in total.
The General Fund budget for 2007 is $74.3 million with a forecasted
reserve at the end of the year of $6.9 million.
Thurston County Chief Administrative Officer Don Krupp
says the 2007 budget is up about five percent from this year.
He says that means that current-level services and programs will
continue. “Because of increased
demand for services and inflationary costs for personnel benefits and other
factors, this is really a status quo budget.”
Unprecedented new construction has had a beneficial impact on general
revenues for the county. But Krupp
says there are several topics of concern for 2007 and beyond.
“We have some big issues that will have impacts on the budget
including management of increasing numbers of jail inmates.
We also have some capital construction concerns such as the new
Accountability and
Restitution
Center
, building a single secure entryway to the main county campus and remodeling
of the 3400 building into a customer service center.”
Other issues, according to Krupp are growth management compliance
concerns, utilities management and economic development in the Grand Mound
area.
A public hearing on the 2007 budget will be held at
6:15 PM the evening of December 4th in room 280 of Building One of
the Thurston County Courthouse, 2000 Lakeridge Drive SW, Olympia.
County
Commissioners
will deliberate on the budget December 4th through the 8th
and adoption is scheduled for Monday morning, December 18th.
