Proclamation in Honor of Earth Day, April 22nd
OLYMPIA – Saying it will take efforts from everyone to protect the
natural resources of this area and the rest of the planet, Thurston County
Commissioners are issuing a proclamation in honor of Earth Day, April 22nd.
In part, the proclamation reads, “Thurston County citizens, staff,
and elected officials are working closely with federal, state, local, and
tribal governments, and with non-governmental organizations to develop and
implement regulations and ordinances specifically designed to preserve and
improve Thurston County’s fragile ecosystems and quality of life.”
The adoption of the proclamation,
along with special ceremonies, will be part of the Commissioner’s regularly
scheduled meeting Tuesday afternoon.
As part of the event, Commissioners will recognize
the efforts of several county groups including Streamteam, the Thurston County Planning Commission and
the Master Recyclers program. A
certificate will be presented to the groups from the commissioners, thanking
them for their work.
There will also be a special tree planting ceremony on
the county campus involving children from area schools.
The public is invited to attend the ceremonies.
The Thurston County Commission meeting begins at 2 pm on Tuesday in
Room 280 of Building One of the Thurston County Courthouse, 2000 Lakeridge
Drive SW in Olympia.
