Applications Sought for Affordable Housing Funds in Thurston County

OLYMPIA Qualifying Thurston County organizations are invited to apply for up to $530,453 in HOME Investment Partnership (HOME) funding for rental housing projects to preserve affordable housing in the area. About $149,790 of the funding has been set aside to fund Community Housing Development Organizations (CHDO).

In addition to CHDO’s, public housing authorities, non-profit organizations, for-profit organizations, and faith-based organizations may apply. Funds must be used to produce or preserve long-term affordable housing in Thurston County for low income residents. Projects must be eligible HOME activities that support affordable rental housing, which includes acquisition and /or rehabilitation, new construction, and acquisition and/or rehabilitation of homebuyer properties. In addition, CHDO’s may submit proposals for new construction of homebuyer properties.

Priority for funding will be given to:

·        Community Housing Development Organizations (or organizations that meet all the regulatory and program requirements of a CHDO, and can be certified eligible within 90 days),

·        Projects that preserve affordable rental housing units in the Cities of Tenino and Yelm

·        Projects that prevent the loss of existing (private) affordable and subsidized multifamily rental units for homeless and special needs populations

·        Organizations that leverage both county funds and meet the HOME match requirements (25% of all HOME funds spent on eligible activities must be matched with non-federal funds);

·        Organizations that have a project which will benefit underserved towns and cities, and rural areas of the county, and

·        Projects that are ready to proceed.

         The submission deadline for proposals is Monday September 22, 2008.
Interested organizations should submit one original and four copies of the proposal to:
