Development Block Grant Applications Due
OLYMPIA
--
Thurston
County
is soliciting proposed projects for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
funds for 2007. CDBG General
Purpose Grants are provided through the Washington State Department of
Community, Trade and Economic Development (CTED).
The next grant cycle for funding begins in September with applications
due to CTED in November.
A maximum of $1,000,000 in CDBG funding may be available
for non-housing rehabilitation activities (projects).
The maximum funding for housing rehabilitation projects is $500,000.
To be eligible for funding, projects must benefit at least 51% of the
low and moderate-income households in the target area, prevent or eliminate
slums or blight, or meet an urgent need to protect public health and safety.
Eligible community development projects include public facilities,
community facilities, housing, infrastructure, and economic development.
Applicants interested in seeking funding must complete a
Request for Proposal application and submit it to
Thurston
County
no later than 5:00 P.M. July 24, 2006. The
Thurston County Board of
County
Commissioners
will conduct a public hearing on August 7, 2006 at 6:00 P.M. to hear project
presentations and to take public testimony.
The hearing will take place in Room 280, Building 1 of the Thurston
County Courthouse. Projects will
be evaluated on the basis of the completeness of applications and readiness to
proceed. Following the hearing,
the commissioners may select one project to sponsor for CDBG funding.
The selected applicant will be invited to prepare a CDBG application,
and would be required to attend the CDBG Application Workshop on September 7,
2006.
Those who would like to receive a Request for
Proposal Application, or who have questions, should contact Dwight Edwards at
709-3003 or by email at edwardd@co.thurston.wa.us
