Public
Invited to Comment On Comprehensive Plan Revisions
OLYMPIA – Thurston County residents are
encouraged to attend a public hearing next week regarding changes to the
county’s comprehensive plan. The
review of the plan is mandated under the state’s Growth Management Act.
The act requires update and revision of the plan every seven years.
Associate Planner Jennifer Hayes says many of the
revisions are housekeeping in nature but some are more substantial.
“There are several components of the comprehensive plan and zoning
regulations which will be significantly changed once this review is completed.
They include new zoning regulations for parks, new development
standards in some areas like the Green Cove Basin and new policies and special
use permit standards to protect the rural character of the unincorporated
county.”
Other sections of the Comprehensive Plan
undergoing revision include-
q
Housing policies including affordable housing and
non-discriminatory housing practices.
q
Utilities including proposed location of new utilities and
future projects.
q
Economic Development including policy changes for development of
the Grand Mound area.
More information on the proposed revisions to the
Thurston County Comprehensive Plan, as well as the draft amendments, can be
found on the Internet at http://www.co.thurston.wa.us/permitting/Comprehensive_Plan.htm
The Public Hearing on the Thurston County
Comprehensive Plan will be held at 7 PM the evening of Wednesday, September 29th
in room 280 of Building One of the Thurston County Courthouse in Olympia.
An open house will precede the hearing at 6:30.
