Community
Development Block Grant Fund Applications Due
OLYMPIA
--. The next cycle for Community
Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for
Thurston
County
will be open in the fall, with applications due to the State Office of
Community Development in November.
A
maximum of $1,000,000 may be available to the county on a statewide
competitive basis for General Purpose. Projects
must principally benefit low and moderate-income persons, prevent or eliminate
slums or blight, or meet an urgent need to protect public health and safety.
Applications will be accepted for a variety of eligible community
development projects, public facility, community facility, and economic
development.
The
county may sponsor and submit an application on its own behalf or on behalf of
another entity, after a public hearing and deliberation process.
The county may only submit one application each for a General Purpose
project.
The
county has had inquiries from more than one agency and needs to know what
agencies are currently interested in applying for CDBG funds and for what
projects. Any entity interested in
proposing a CDBG funded project, should fill out the project questionnaire and
return it to Connie Rivera by 5:00 on Sept 27, 2005.
The
Board of County Commissioners will hold a public hearing at 6:45 p.m. on
October 3, 2005 to hear presentations and take testimony on the proposed
projects. The hearing will take
place in Room 280 in Building One of the Thurston County Courthouse on
Lakeridge DR.
in
Olympia
. Each project sponsor will be
given a maximum of 10 minutes for a presentation. Public testimony and Board
questions/discussion will follow. After
the public hearing, the Commissioners will decide which, if any, project to
sponsor as an application for state CDBG funds.
The selected project applicant will then develop the full application
package. That application will be
the subject of a public meeting in November prior to submittal as a county
application.
