Approaches for Community Development Block Grant Applications
OLYMPIA
–
Thurston
County
is soliciting proposed projects for
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for 2009.
CDBG General Purpose Grants are provided through the Washington State
Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development (CTED).
The next grant cycle for funding begins in September with applications
due to CTED in November.
A
maximum of $1,000,000 in CDBG funding may be available to the county.
To be eligible for funding, projects
must principally benefit
low-and moderate income persons at or below 80 percent of the county median
income, prevent or eliminate slums
or blight, or meet an urgent need to protect public health and safety.
Eligible community development projects include public facilities,
community facilities, housing, infrastructure, and economic development.
Those
interested in applying must complete a Request for Proposal application and
submit it to
Thurston
County
no later than 4:30 P.M. August 18, 2008.
The Thurston County Board of
County
Commissioners
will conduct a public hearing on August 26, 2008 at 6:00 P.M. to hear
project presentations and take public testimony.
The hearing will take place in Room 280, Building One of the Thurston
County Courthouse. Projects will
be evaluated on the basis of completeness of application and readiness to
proceed. Following the hearing,
the commissioners will select one project to sponsor for CDBG funding.
The selected applicant will be invited to prepare a CDBG application,
and would be required to attend the CDBG Application Workshop on September 4,
2008.
