Hearings to
be Held on County Shorelines Planning
OLYMPIA
– A
series of public hearings this month, will allow
Thurston
County
citizens to help craft policies for eight required elements for a
state-mandated update of the county’s Shoreline Master Program. The
eight elements include-

Economic Development, the utilization of
shorelines for economically productive uses that are particularly dependent on
shoreline location or use
·
Public Access
·
Recreation
·
Circulation, including
public transportation and other public utilities and
facilities
·
Usage, including
housing, business, industry, transportation, agriculture, natural resources,
recreation, education and public buildings and grounds
·
Conservation, protection
and restoration of the ecological functions of shoreline natural resources
·
Historic, cultural,
scientific, and educational values
·
Flood damage
prevention and mitigation
Four public meetings are
scheduled in March from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to hear citizens' views and
concerns regarding the eight elements of the Shoreline Master Program.
