OLYMPIA A series of public hearings this month, will allow Thurston County citizens to help craft policies for eight required elements for a state-mandated update of the county’s Shoreline Master Program. The eight elements include-

·         Economic Development, the utilization of shorelines for economically productive uses that are particularly dependent on shoreline location or use

·         Public Access

·         Recreation

·         Circulation, including public transportation and other public utilities and facilities

·         Usage, including housing, business, industry, transportation, agriculture, natural resources, recreation, education and public buildings and grounds

·         Conservation, protection and restoration of the ecological functions of shoreline natural resources

·         Historic, cultural, scientific, and educational values

·         Flood damage prevention and mitigation

Four public meetings are scheduled in March from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to hear citizens' views and concerns regarding the eight elements of the Shoreline Master Program.
