Sets
Hearing On Critical Areas Ordinance Revisions
OLYMPIA
-- The Thurston County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on September
27, 2005 at 6:30 p.m., at the Worthington Center, located at St. Martins
College, 5300Pacific Ave SE, Lacey Washington
98503. The
purpose of the hearing is to accept public comment on proposed amendments to
the Thurston County Critical Area regulations.
The proposed amendments call for major revisions of the critical areas
regulations and related administrative procedures to achieve compliance with
the state Growth Management Act. Critical areas include wetlands, stream
buffers, important animal, bird and fish habitats, landslide hazard areas and
other geologic hazard areas, flooding and stream channel migration hazards,
and critical aquifer recharge areas.
Thurston
County Senior Planner John Sonnen says the update is required.
“Under state law, we must update our critical areas ordinance to
better reflect our increased understanding of the science of these areas and
of the value they provide to all of us. This
is an issue that touches everyone because of flood control, ground water
protections and other public health benefits.”
Copies of the proposed
amendments are available at the
Permit
Assistance
Center
at Thurston County Development Services Department at the address shown below
