Tickets by Internet
Olympia- Starting on
August 4th , explaining your traffic ticket to the judge will
become easier in Thurston County District Court.
That is the day the public will be able to mitigate their tickets from
home using a computer and the Internet. The
process is available through the Thurston County District Court web site at www.co.thurston.wa.us/distcrt.
Just click on the “E-Mitigation Hearings” button and follow the
directions.
Persons mitigating traffic
tickets admit they committed the infraction, but are given an opportunity to
explain the circumstances and ask the court to reduce the fine.
The on-line process will save a trip to the Thurston County Courthouse.
People using the computer method will be advised of the court’s
eventual decision by e-mail.
Thurston County District
Court joins Yakima County and Spokane County in offering this service.
“Mitigation by computer
offers the public a chance to explain the circumstances of their traffic
ticket from the convenience of their home,” noted District Court Judge Kip
Stilz. “This service will save
the public time and money and will increase court efficiency,” he said. Persons may still request a court hearing before the judge if
they do not wish to mitigate by computer.
Programming for the new
service was created by Paul Henderson, an employee of the Thurston County
Central Services Department under the supervision of Jim Wilcox, the
department’s director.
