Fall Recycle Events a Success!

OLYMPIA – More than 800 people recycled a variety of items earlier this month at Thurston County ’s “Community Recycle Days” events at South Sound Speedway and the Thurston County Fairgrounds.  Items recycled or re-used ranged from broken old console TVs to bikes destined for new homes.

Items collected included:

  •  640 computer monitors, TVs and microwaves
  •  380 pieces of office equipment (printers, copiers, CPUs)
  •  300 electronic items (stereos, VCRs, DVDs)
  •  185 refrigerators and freezers
  •  265 washers, dryers and dishwashers
  •  180 lawn mowers
  •  1,160 yards of scrap metal
  •  960 tires
Those who missed Community Recycle Days can still recycle most of these items at the Thurston County Waste and Recovery Center (WARC) on Hogum Bay Road .  For more information on where to take recyclable or re-useable items, check the “Brown Pages” in the front of the Dex phone book for recycling options, or visit www.co.thurston.wa.us/wwm
