It’s not out
of sight, it’s on-site!
On-site sewage
disposal systems (septic systems) can be an effective way to deal with
wastewater from homes. When they
are working properly, septic systems help to safely filter water that comes
from sinks, toilets, and laundry in order to replenish groundwater.
That’s right, in
Thurston
County
, where we depend upon groundwater for our drinking water; our on-site septic
systems help to replenish groundwater.
The connection
between our on-site systems and our drinking water is one reason that
Thurston
County
’s Public Health Department regulates on-site sewage systems.
Regulation isn’t all that it takes to maintain septic systems and
education is also offered. Septic
workshops are available for anyone who wants to understand more about their
septic system in order to properly maintain it.
Why would anyone
want to understand their septic
system? It is through
understanding that care and maintenance can be performed.
It takes only two hours to attend a free, septic workshop and receive
the confidence that what goes into your system is what the system is designed
to handle. Learn how to know when
to pump the tank, how to extend the life of your system and protect your
investment and why non-toxic products are better for your system.
The
following septic workshops are free to the public.
Please contact Thurston County Environmental Health at (360) 754-4111
ext 7631 or johnsoj@co.thurston.wa.us
to register in advance. For more
information on septic systems you can see our web site at www.co.thurston.wa.us/health.
