-- As
part of a larger effort to encourage healthy lifestyles, Thurston County
Public Health and Social Services is making mini-grants available to qualified
local organizations. The grants,
which total $50,000, are part of the “Steps to a HealthierUS” program,
which was launched in
Thurston
County
in 2003. The program focuses on
ways to increase the health of community members including making good
nutrition choices, undertaking exercises like walking and fighting chronic
illnesses like asthma, obesity and diabetes.
The grants are available for three kinds of projects-
ü
Walking Partner Project and Walkable Places Assessment
and Action projects.
ü
Healthier Youth Out-of-School time enrichment projects.
ü
Healthy STEPS Community Partner projects.
The grants will be awarded in a
competitive process after applications are accepted and reviewed.
There are many types of organizations who may qualify for one of the
mini-grants. They include-
Schools, Neighborhood Associations, Colleges, Government Offices, Tribal
Organizations, Faith-based Groups, Parent-Teacher Associations, Youth Groups
and others.
Interested parties must follow
guidelines to apply for a mini-grant. The
