Groundbreaking
Set for Mental Health Center
OLYMPIA – Special ceremonies next week will mark the start of
construction for a Mental Health Evaluation and Treatment Facility in Thurston
County. The facility is to be
located at 3436 Mary Elder Road NE, off of Martin Way in Olympia.
The 21,000 square foot center will be used for voluntary and involuntary
psychiatric inpatient care for eligible mentally ill individuals, according to
Thurston/Mason Regional Support Network Administrator Mark Freedman.
“This facility also includes a triage center to allow provision of
crisis services and stabilization for eligible individuals who are in an acute
episode of their mental illness. We
feel this is an important addition to the continuum of mental health services
offered in Thurston and Mason Counties for mental health clients.”
Freedman says construction of the center comes after much community
input and support. “The process
so far has come about because of a great deal of cooperation between Thurston
County Public Health and Social Services, Thurston County Commissioners, local
mental health agencies across the county, the law enforcement community,
consumers and their families and many others.
The fruition of this process is a wonderful example of the kind of
collaborative effort that folks in our community often provide.”
Upon completion, the center will provide 15 beds for inpatient unit and
10 beds in the triage portion of the facility.
Current plans call for the center to open late this year.
