MEDICAL
RESERVE CORPS PROVIDES FLU SHOTS AT THE LEGISLATURE
Thurston
County Medical Reserve Corps volunteers today provided flu shots at the
legislature. This was another
opportunity for this volunteer group of Doctors, Nurses, Dentists,
Veterinarians, Pharmacists, emergency workers, and ex- military medics to
expand the public health capacity for responding during an emergency.
For
a variety of reasons, some folks may not yet have gotten their flu shots.
Thurston County Health Officer Dr. Diana Yu says it is never too late
to get one, unless you have already had influenza this season.
So far this year, influenza has been slow in arriving to the South
Sound according to Dr. Yu. “We
continue to see sporadic cases of influenza in our area.
However, nine other states are reporting widespread influenza
activity.”
State
representatives Shay Schaul Berke and Sam Hunt took advantage of this
opportunity for a flu shot as did 57 other workers and visitors to the
legislative building.
Thurston
County
public health
emergency response coordinators also took the opportunity to discuss emergency
plans for the legislature and capitol campus in the event of a public health
emergency, such as pandemic influenza.
