Thurston County seeking applicants to serve on theTimberland Regional Library Board of Trustees.

Olympia - The Board of Thurston County Commissioners is seeking applicants for a vacancy on the Timberland Regional Library Board of Trustees.  Timberland Regional Library is a five-county library district with 27 libraries.  The Board of Trustees is composed of seven members, one each from the five counties included in the district, and two at-large members.  Members serve seven-year unpaid terms for a maximum of two consecutive terms.  Applicants must be Thurston County residents. 

Members are expected to attend monthly meetings, executive sessions, major library events, training sessions, and make periodic visits to the libraries in the county they serve.  Board meetings are generally scheduled on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m.  There are usually six meetings a year held in Olympia and six meetings held in other areas of the district.

Library trustees’ duties include, but are not limited to: adopting bylaws, rules, and regulations for the governance of the library; responsibility for the district’s budget, accepting gifts of money or property for library purposes; leasing or purchasing land for library buildings; leasing, purchasing, or erecting buildings for library purposes; and employing a library director. 

Thurston County residents interested in applying should request an application form by calling the Thurston County Commissioners’ Office at 786-5440.  The deadline for receipt of applications is Monday, March 18, 2002 .
