Methamphetamine
Documentary to Premier in
Olympia
OLYMPIA
--Youth and Young Adult (YAYA) Media is proud to announce a one-night public
premier of their youth-produced documentary video about methamphetamines, My
Life’s Notice.
Over a year in
the making, “My Life’s Notice” asks the viewer to consider the ways that
traditional and alternative treatment options, communities, families, and
social structures affect the ways that young people can work through
methamphetamine addiction. The
group hopes that the documentary will encourage a community dialogue in which
the youth affected by meth are a vital part of the conversation.
Local
youth began producing this documentary in the fall of 2006, when staff from
United Communities AIDS Network and TOGETHER! proposed a youth-led video
project to raise awareness about methamphetamines. The goal was to produce an
educational video about meth-associated risks, treatment methods, and risk
reduction. Participating youth
agreed to work on the video, largely because many had been affected, or had
friends or family affected, by methamphetamines. A young producer says about
the project, “We’re doing this because we don’t want people to end up
the way we have.”
All proceeds from the premier will benefit YAYA Media, a program of
Thurston Community Television that helps youth and young adults share their
voices with the community through the media arts.
