Training for Health Care Workers Scheduled
OLYMPIA
–
Doctors, Dentists and other health care professionals are invited to attend a
special training session later this month regarding methamphetamine.
The workshop is co-sponsored by TOGETHER!, the Thurston County
Methamphetamine Coalition, Thurston County Public Health and Social Services,
the Thurston County Medical Association, and the Thurston- Mason Counties
Dental Society. The goals of
the session are to provide background to health care professionals regarding
recognition of meth users, provide tools for early intervention, and to
identify and connect with community resources regarding methamphetamine.
The four-hour session will include presentations on the
impacts of methamphetamine, medical and behavioral issues with meth, points of
intervention and more. Featured
speaker is Alice Huber Ph.D. Ms.
Huber is a nationally known author and researcher who is well versed in the
various impacts of methamphetamine, especially addiction and treatment issues.
The workshop includes a meal and will also provide up
to four category one Continuing Medical Education Units (CMEs) as approved by
the American Medical Association. The registration cost is $20 to help offset
the cost of speakers and food. Space
is limited and those interested are encouraged to register soon.
