Methamphetamine
Coalition Launches Web Site, Help Line.
Thurston County. Unfortunately, this county consistently ranks third or fourth
in the state for the number of meth labs and the impact on the criminal
justice system and the lives of victims, addicts and their families is just
horrendous. This is one way we
are reacting in a unified manner to this challenge.”
The Coalition was formed in September of 2001 and there have already
been numerous benefits including increased communication between and among
participating agencies. There has
also been cross training set up for law enforcement agencies and health
professionals regarding dealing with addicts.
The work of the Coalition has also been helpful in obtaining grants for
two treatment programs. Coalition
activities also dovetail well with the activities of Thurston County Drug
Court, the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Team and the “Weed and Seed”
program in Rochester run by the Thurston County Prosecutor’s Office.
The Coalition meets every other month and the
next meeting is set for the afternoon of July 11th from 1 to 4 at
the East Olympia Fire Department.
