THURSTON
COUNTY MEDICAL RESERVE CORPS AND AREA LIONS CLUBS ANNOUNCE FLU VACCINE CLINIC
The Thurston County
Medical Reserve Corp has received a supply of influenza vaccine which is being
made available to all residents of Thurston County.
A vaccination clinic will be held at the Thurston County Public Health
and Social Services Department located at 412 Lilly Rd. NE in Olympia on
Sunday, December 11th, 2005 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
All county residents 6
months of age and older, who haven’t yet received a flu shot, are welcome.
The cost is $15, though no one will be refused a flu shot due to the
inability to pay. Medical coupons
will be accepted.
Thurston County Public
Health Officer, Doctor Diana Yu, says it is never too late to get a flu shot.
“ Influenza activity has just started in Thurston County and usually peaks
in February. Getting a flu shot in
December will still afford protection against the flu.”
With the holidays upon
us, many people may be planning to travel or attend family and other social
gatherings. It is important to
take precautions to avoid getting sick or spreading illness.
Precautions such as getting a flu shot, covering your cough with your
sleeve or a tissue and washing your hands frequently with warm soap and water
when sick will help prevent getting or spreading illness.
Other tips include not sharing drinks, food or cigarettes, and avoiding
gatherings and public places if you are sick with a cough or fever.
The Thurston County
Medical Reserve Corps is made up of area volunteers including Doctors, Nurses,
Dentists, Veterinarians, Pharmacists, emergency workers, and ex- military
medics. By partnering with area
Lions Clubs, Thurston County continues to build emergency response capacity
and increase the ability of the public health department to bring services,
such as flu shots, to the area.
Again, the flu shot
clinic will be held Sunday, December 11th from 1:00PM to 5:00PM at
the Thurston County Health Department at 412 Lilly Road NE across from
Providence Saint Peter Hospital.
