Commissioners Move Forward on PFD Projects
OLYMPIA
– Thurston
County Commissioners have agreed to continue their support of two projects
under the Public Facilities District (PFD) program.
The two projects, as determined by Lacey,
Olympia
, Tumwater and the County, are the Regional Athletic Complex near Lacey and
the Hands On Children’s Museum in
Olympia
.
Commissioners this week confirmed their earlier
agreement to pay “fair market value” for 26 acres of land for the Regional
Athletic Complex. That financing,
through the Conservation Futures Fund, Allows about $2M of the PFD funds to be
used for the museum while still greatly expanding the athletic complex.
Commission chair Bob Macleod says the board is pleased that the PFD
process is moving forward. “We
are happy to be able to continue our support for these facilities that will
greatly benefit the citizens of
Thurston
County
. We are grateful to Nancy
Peterson of Lacey and Doug Mah of
Olympia
for coming up with the compromise that has allowed this process to reach a
mutually beneficial conclusion.”
Commissioners thanked City of
Tumwater
council members for their willingness to set aside an aquatic center proposal
in order to facilitate an opportunity to move forward with the Public
Facilities District.
The Commissioners have sent letters to the three cities
indicating their willingness to continue the PFD process.
Work is on going by all of the jurisdictions to meet the June 30th
deadline contained in the compromise worked out by
Olympia
and Lacey.
