Septic System Care and Maintenance
OLYMPIA
–
With septic systems in the news so much lately, you may ask, “What is the
big deal?” Septic systems
require regular maintenance to function properly.
It is through the proper function of on-site septic systems that public
health and the environment can be protected from the pathogens in human waste.
Thurston County Public Health and Social Services offers regular
workshops to assist septic system owners in prolonging the life of their
systems and in keeping them functioning properly.
Workshop participants have the opportunity to speak with health
department experts and industry professionals and to have their on-site septic
system questions answered. The
also receive a coupon for $10 off their next septic pumping, and educational
materials to take home. The
workshop covers the basics on septic care and maintenance and provides
information on how to maintain a system to prolong its life and protect public
and environmental health.
Those interested in attending a workshop, need to
register in advance at (360) 754-4111. (The TDD line is (360) 754-2933.)
County residents can also call the septic help line at (360) 357-2490
to ask sanitarian questions anonymously.
All workshops run from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and feature
materials to take home, advice from experts, $10 pumping coupons, and cookies!
