Grant Money Available in Thurston County Health Project

Olympia- Continuing efforts to encourage healthy lifestyles, Thurston County Public Health and Social Services is making mini-grants available to qualified local organizations.  The grants, which total $5,000, are part of “Healthy STEPS in Thurston County ,” funded by a national “Steps to a HealthierUS” grant.

Healthy STEPS in Thurston County awarded approximately $50,000 to community organizations in March, to implement projects that focus on increasing the health of community members.

Mini-grants in the amount of $500 are available in this round of funding to support enhancements to existing projects, promote new activities or to provide seed money to pilot community initiatives that address one or more of the following goals:

·          Projects that provide increased opportunities for physical activity.

·          Projects that promote healthy eating.

·         Projects regarding prevention of Type II Diabetes.

The grants will be awarded in a competitive process after applications are accepted and reviewed.  Interested parties must follow proper guidelines to apply for a mini-grant.

The details and a downloadable application can be found on the Thurston County Public Health and Social Services web site at http://www.co.thurston.wa.us/health/steps

Or parties may call Mary Ann O’Garro at 360-786-5581 Ext. 17038#.

The deadline for the grant applications is June 6, 2005.
