Stream bug monitoring workshop set for June and July

OLYMPIA Stream Team is looking for volunteers to stir things up this summer, specifically “stream bugs.”  Stream bugs, otherwise known as benthic macroinvertebrates, provide valuable information about water quality and the biological health of streams. They are also fun to collect and examine.

Volunteers are invited to attend one of two free training sessions on either June 18 or July 8 from
6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The training will cover the rationale for biological monitoring, the sampling protocol, and local data.  Trained volunteers will then sign up for one or more summer monitoring days. Registration is required.  To register and find out the location of the event, call Ann Marie Finan at 754-3355, ext. 6857 or e-mail finanam@co.thurston.wa.us.
