Stream Team needs help finding stream bugs

OLYMPIA – Stream Team is seeking volunteers to help monitor local streams for benthic macroinvertebrates, or “stream bugs.” Stream bugs provide valuable information about water quality and the biological health of streams. They are also fun to collect and examine.

Volunteers are invited to attend one of two training sessions on either July 8 or July 17. Each session will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the A/B room on the second floor of the Thurston County Roads and Transportation Building , 2404 Heritage Court in Olympia .

The training will cover the rationale for biological monitoring, the sampling protocol, and local data.  Trained volunteers will then sign up for one or more summer monitoring days. Registration is required.  To register, call Ann Marie Finan at 754-3355, ext. 6857.
