Learn how to
be a Stream Team “Salmon Steward”
OLYMPIA
– Stream Team is
looking for volunteers to become Salmon Stewards. Salmon
Stewards are trained volunteers who staff salmon-viewing areas in
Thurston
County
.
People
interested in becoming Salmon Stewards should attend one of two evening
classroom training sessions on either Tuesday, Aug. 12 or Wednesday, Aug. 20.
These sessions will be followed by two Saturday morning field trainings.
Chinook
salmon will soon begin migrating through South Sound and
Capitol
Lake
. Every year since 1998, volunteer Salmon Stewards greet the viewing public at
the
5th Avenue
Bridge in downtown
Olympia
or at
Tumwater
Falls
Park
to answer questions about hatchery run Chinook.
Later in the fall, Salmon Stewards greet hikers along the McLane Creek
Nature Trail where wild chum salmon spawn naturally.
For
more information and to register, please call Chris Maun at 754-3355, ext.
