Thurston
County
Commissioner Wolfe Recognized for Homeless Work
OLYMPIA
– Work on issues affecting the homeless has lead to a special honor for
Thurston County Commissioner Cathy Wolfe.
She received the 2005 Community Hero Award as Community Leader of the
year, from the Washington State Coalition for the Homeless.
Wolfe was given the award during the Coalition’s recent meetings in
Yakima
.
The Housing Authority of Thurston County and the
Housing Task Force of Thurston County nominated Wolfe.
The organizations credit Wolfe with “….Showing great leadership in
creating the Interjurisdictional Forum on Homelessness.”
The announcement letter says, “Your (Cathy’s) work has been
instrumental in
Thurston
County
’s efforts to end homelessness.”
Wolfe says she is humbled by the award.
“It’s wonderful to be recognized in this way, but I am just a small
part of the community’s effort to fight homelessness.
I think the award reflects the great deal of cooperation between
jurisdictions in
Thurston
County
and between and among different agencies and organizations that are working on
this problem. I’m proud to be a
small part of the effort, but we’ve got a lot more work to do.”
Wolfe says her work on issues of homelessness
dovetail nicely with other programs the county is working on, including
increasing access to social services, mental health programs, community
corrections and more. “We are
all trying to look at these challenges in a more unified and holistic way and
this award just recognizes our efforts.”
