County to
discuss new stormwater rules at workshops
OLYMPIA
– Proposed new rules for managing
stormwater runoff from development projects will be the topic of a series of
open houses scheduled by
Thurston
County
. The new rules are spelled out in a proposed update to the county’s 1994
Drainage Design and Erosion Control Manual. The update is required to meet
statewide standards set by the Department of Ecology.
Three general
public open houses will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the following
days:

May 28 at the
Thurston
County
Courthouse,
2000 Lakeridge Drive S.W.
, Building 1, Room 280 in
Olympia
;

June 2 at the Thurston
County Fairgrounds Heritage Hall,
3054 Carpenter Road S.W.
near Lacey; and
·
June 4 at
Parkside
Elementary School
,
301 Central Avenue E.
in Tenino.
Two additional
technical workshops geared specifically toward the engineering and development
communities will be held June 8 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and June 10 from 6:30
p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Both workshops will be held at the Thurston County
Courthouse,

The purpose of the Drainage Design and Erosion Control
Manual is to help reduce the amount of pollution and erosion caused by
stormwater runoff entering rivers, streams,
Puget Sound
and the groundwater. The manual applies to all development and redevelopment
projects in unincorporated
Thurston
County
.
