Many ways to
recycle Christmas trees
OLYMPIA
--
Thurston
County
residents recycle approximately 90 tons of Christmas trees each year. This
holiday season, keep the tradition alive by recycling your tree. Whether you
leave the tree at the curb or self-haul it to a collection station, the tree
will ultimately end up at the Waste and
Recovery
Center
near Hawks Prairie. From there, the tree will be transported off-site and
turned into compost or energy.
Before
recycling your tree, remove all decorations. Flocked trees are acceptable. If
your tree is over 6 feet, cut it in half before placing it at the curb.
Apartment residents should check with property managers to find out tree
locations, or use a drop-off site.
If you have a
living tree, consider donating it to a city or non-profit group such as Wolf
Haven. Even gently-used artificial trees can be “recycled” through
Goodwill.
