Yelm / Thurston County Joint Plan
Population
Update
Background
On July 28, 2008, the Western Washington Growth Management Hearings Board (Hearings Board) ruled that the City of Yelm Comprehensive Plan and Joint Plan with Thurston County did not comply with the Growth Management Act. Specifically, the Hearings Board found that the future population projections adopted with Resolution No. 13734 did not support the size of the City of Yelm Urban Growth Area.
Current Status
This amendment has been deferred until the seven year update. Please check back for updates if there is a change in this timeline.
Thurston County Planning Commission
On April 15, 2009 the Thurston County Planning Commission held a public hearing. Following the public hearing, the Planning Commission voted to forward the proposed amendment to the Board of County Commissioners with a recommendation of approval.
Proposed Amendment
The current population forecast numbers in the City of Yelm Comprehensive Plan and Joint Plan with Thurston County are not current. The proposed comprehensive plan amendment will bring the references to population in the plan up to date. They will be consistent with the future population projections adopted by Thurston County on March 3, 2008 with Resolution No. 14034 and Ordinance No. 14035. The resolution and ordinance include the population forecast and allocation data for the County through 2028.
