Absentee Voting Information

Requesting an Absentee Ballot for the November 4 General Election

If you wish to request an Absentee Ballot for the November 4 General Election, and are not currently a permanent absentee voter, you may fill out the Voter Registration Form on page 40 of this pamphlet. This form will take care of initial registration, address and name changes, as well as permanent absentee requests. Simply fill out all of the information, and answer "yes" to question 8, “ ongoing absentee request." If you are already an ongoing absentee voter, you DO NOT need to complete this form. You will automatically receive a ballot for this election provided our office has your current residential/mailing address.

Complete the form for the following reasons:

  • You will be out of town prior to election day. (General election ballots will begin arriving on October 18th.)
     
  • You wish to become an ongoing absentee voter.    
     
  • You wish to use this form to change your voter registration address.

  • You are 17 1/2 and wish to register for the first time.

For Military Members, Overseas Citizens, and Hospitalized Voters

  1. Service Absentee Ballot: Members of the military service and their dependents may apply for an absentee ballot at any time.                                                                                                              
  2. Special Absentee Ballot: A voter who is outside the continental United States at election time and will be unable to return a regular absentee ballot by normal mail delivery, may apply for a special absentee ballot up to 90 days before an election. The special absentee ballot will contain the known offices and measures scheduled to appear on the ballot.                                                                                      
  3. Emergency Health Clause: If you are confined to a hospital or health care facility, you may apply for an absentee ballot up to and including the day of the election. Contact the hospital administrator or County Auditor for such a ballot.

Please Note...

  • Any voter may request an absentee ballot for a specific election, in person, by telephone (360) 786-5408, by mail, fax (360) 786-5223, or by e-mail: www.co.thurston.wa.us/auditor.
  • Submit your request at once to allow time for a correspondence exchange.



    Remember to Sign Your Ballot Envelope
 
All ballots must be voted and postmarked no later than the day of the election.
