Voting is Cool
The classroom voting education program
for elementary school students
The Thurston County Auditor's Office has designed a program called "Voting is Cool," to assist elementary school teachers. The program provides lesson plans for teachers to present information on elections to their students, informing them about the importance of voting.
Grade appropriate, frameworks based lesson plans are available for teachers to pick up from the Elections Division of the Auditor's Office. Each lesson plan targets a particular age group:
Kindergarten, First and Second Grades
Third and Fourth Grades
Fifth and Sixth Grades
The packets contain instructions, lesson plans, activity handouts, pencils, and stickers. Additionally, staff from the Auditor's Office may be available to come in and speak to your class.
"Children who are exposed to voting at an early age are more likely to vote when they become adults. By providing these 'Voting is Cool' lesson plans, we hope to develop the next generation of voters." -Thurston County Auditor Kim Wyman
