Licensing- Pet Licenses

All dogs and cats six months of age or older within Unincorporated Thurston County must be licensed. These licenses may be issued by the Thurston County Auditor's Office or Animal Services.

Dog License Prices:

Dogs, NOT spayed or neutered

$24.00

Dogs, spayed, neutered or under 6 months

$12.00

Reduced Fee (see below for qualifications)

$6.00

Cat License Prices

Cats, NOT spayed or neutered

$16.00

Cats, spayed, neutered, or under 6 months

$8.00

Reduced Fee (see below for qualifications)

Reduced Fee Pet License

You qualify for a reduced fee pet license if:

You are over 61 years of age AND are low income; OR
You are disabled and no longer employed because of your disability AND are low income

"Low income" means that you meet one or more of the following:

Qualify for reduction of your property tax through the County Assessor's office;
Qualify for reduction in utility bills through a city;
Make less than $18,000 after taxes are paid
Your sole source of income is Social Security, SSDI or other medical disabililty

AND

Can furnish documentation that will show you meet the above criteria

Hobby Kennel License

"Hobby kennel" means a noncommercial kennel at or adjoining a private residence where four or more adult dogs are bred and/or kept for hunting, training and exhibit for organized shows, field working and/or obedience trials or for enjoyment of the species.

The cost of a Hobby Kennel license is $25.00 per year plus $1.00 per dog.

Hobby Kennel licenses are not issued for cats.

Commerical Kennel License

"Commercial kennel" means a place where adult dogs are bred by a person providing facilities for breeding and the offspring are sold, where such dogs are received for care, training and boarding for compensation, not including a small animal hospital, clinic or pet shop. An adult dog is one that has reached the age of six months.

The cost of a Commercial Kennel license is $25.00 per year.

These licenses run from Janurary 1 to December 31 of each year.
