There are 49 legislative districts in the State of Washington. Each legislative district has one senate position and two representative positions. The districts are drawn so that they are approximately equal in population.

The State Legislature is directly involved in all aspects of state government and in many aspects of county and city governments. It is the governmental body that writes the laws of our state, develops a state budget, and has oversight of state agencies.

Please Note:
In Thurston County, candidates for Senate are running in Legislative Districts No. 2, 20, and 22, and candidates for the House of Representatives are running in Legislative Districts No. 2, 20, 22, and 35.

Only voters residing in District No. 35 will vote on this position.

Kathy Haigh

I am a veterinarian practicing in Mason County for 34 years. I am honored to serve and I am committed to be a leader who listens to the people and responds to their needs.

I remain focused on our public education system with attention to the first five years of child development by pushing for high quality preschools, full day kindergarten, and increased support for parents to help their children read and succeed in school. As chair of the Education Appropriations I will work to bring a full funding model to our public education system.

I support access to health care for all citizens and I helped pass the “2012 Jobs Now” package creating construction-related and long-term jobs for our region.

I remain dedicated to public service and pledge to be a good listener, a compassionate leader, and a strong voice for the people of the 35th district.
