North Thurston Public Schools - School Board Director, District No. 2

School Districts - Thurston County is divided into nine separate school districts, each governed by a five-member board. The board’s responsibilities include: budget, policy development, curriculum approval, planning, and communications. School board directors delegate authority for day-to-day functions to professional staff; however, they may never delegate ultimate responsibility. Board members are elected in a nonpartisan general election by voters within that school district. They receive no salary. A board may approve a per diem compensation for its members for attending board meetings. In most districts, candidates must reside in the subdistrict for which they are seeking office. All candidates are elected by the voters of the entire school district.

All school district positions are nonpartisan.

Only voters residing within the North Thurston Public Schools District will vote on this position.
Statements are written by the candidates, who are solely responsible for the contents therein.

Chuck Namit

I am the incumbent school director, and would love to receive your vote to retain the position. I want to ensure district innovation, such as the implementation of the new teacher-principal evaluation system, and the district’s continued effective schools initiative. Our district’s math and science scores are increasing, and this year we have two National Merit semi-finalists. Since 2009, our district has seen a 60-point increase in the SAT scores of its students, with 20 percent more students taking the test. I want to make sure that there is greater rigor in our curriculum.

The District has seen a 600 student increase over the last few years. I want to see that the district remains a good steward of public dollars. With staff cooperation, refinancing and efficiency we have managed to build the district’s reserves by over 6 percent in the last few years.

Ballots will begin arriving October 17, 2013. If you have not received your ballot by October 24,
