North Thurston Public Schools - School Board Director, District No. 3

School Districts - Thurston County is divided into nine separate school districts, each governed by a five-member board. The board’s responsibilities include: budget, policy development, curriculum approval, planning, and communications. School board directors delegate authority for day-to-day functions to professional staff; however, they may never delegate ultimate responsibility. Board members are elected in a nonpartisan general election by voters within that school district. They receive no salary. A board may approve a per diem compensation for its members for attending board meetings. In most districts, candidates must reside in the subdistrict for which they are seeking office. All candidates are elected by the voters of the entire school district.

All school district positions are nonpartisan.

Only voters residing within the North Thurston Public Schools District will vote on this position.
Statements are written by the candidates, who are solely responsible for the contents therein.

Aaron K. Owada

It has been an honor for me to serve as a school board member for the past 16 years. Through the hard work of dedicated teachers, staff and administrators at North Thurston Public Schools, we have aligned our curriculum and focused our attention on academic rigor. As a result, our test results, especially for math and science at the middle school level, have improved significantly, and our students and teachers have received state and national awards. SAT participation has increased and scores have increased by 67 points. Public education is the cornerstone of our democracy, and the foundation to allow each of our student’s dreams become reality. It is a wise investment for our community.

Aaron is a former Assistant Attorney General and is the founder of AMS LAW. He is married and his children have all graduated from NTPS. He presently serves as the School Board President.
