Rainier School District No. 307 - School Board Director, District No. 5

School Districts - Thurston County is divided into nine separate school districts, each governed by a five-member board. The board’s responsibilities include: budget, policy development, curriculum approval, planning, and communications. School board directors delegate authority for day-to-day functions to professional staff; however, they may never delegate ultimate responsibility. Board members are elected in a nonpartisan general election by voters within that school district. They receive no salary. A board may approve a per diem compensation for its members for attending board meetings. In most districts, candidates must reside in the subdistrict for which they are seeking office. All candidates are elected by the voters of the entire school district.

All school district positions are nonpartisan.

Only voters residing within the Rainier School District will vote on this position.
Statements are written by the candidates, who are solely responsible for the contents therein.

Rebecca A. Stillings

It has been my privilege to serve the students and patrons of Rainier School District for the last 10 years. I believe in the power of education and remain committed to providing our students with a quality educational experience. I understand the challenges of educational reform, K-12 curriculum alignment, student and teacher assessment and the challenges we face from a budgetary perspective.

I am committed to an open process encouraging students, staff, administration and community members to participate in board meetings and work sessions. I will continue to listen to your concerns, encourage communication and facilitate team work. Together we can serve our students well.

This district has accomplished much and there is more work to be done. We could not have done this without the support of our community and I ask you to support me in continuing to serve on the board of Rainier School District.
