Rochester School District No. 401 - School Board Director, District No. 2

School Districts - Thurston County is divided into nine separate school districts, each governed by a five-member board. The board’s responsibilities include: budget, policy development, curriculum approval, planning, and communications. School board directors delegate authority for day-to-day functions to professional staff; however, they may never delegate ultimate responsibility. Board members are elected in a nonpartisan general election by voters within that school district. They receive no salary. A board may approve a per diem compensation for its members for attending board meetings. In most districts, candidates must reside in the subdistrict for which they are seeking office. All candidates are elected by the voters of the entire school district.

All school district positions are nonpartisan.

Only voters residing within the Rochester School District will vote on this position.
Statements are written by the candidates, who are solely responsible for the contents therein.

My name is Camille Haskins. As an RHS alumni and Rochester resident I am applying to extend my service as a Rochester School Board member filling position 2. In September 2012 I applied and was appointed to the vacant position. I am motivated to continue my service on the board helping to guide this rising and desirable school district.

The past nine months as a board member has been a positive and learning experience. I have learned that the once struggling district is now competitive academically with larger more affluent districts of Thurston County. I have seen evidence of continuous rising student achievement, a dedicated staff and sound financial decisions. I am confident in my ability to be an objective member in the many decisions a school board must make.

Please allow me the responsibility and pleasure of continuing to serve as a board member of the Rochester School District.

Over the last several years, I have seen many issues with the district as a whole that have to be fixed. My goal is to help improve communication and relationships between the schools and the parents.

It will be my goal to work with school staff, students, and the community to make bullying a thing of the past for our district. We need real solutions that work including giving our students the tools to wipe out bullying.

My wife Lisa and I have 4 children, 3 of whom are students in Rochester Schools. I have lived in Rochester the majority of the last 10 years, and am proud to call Rochester home.

We need real solutions to our districts problems. I will encourage all parents, students, and staff to communicate with myself, as well as other board directors so that we as a district can be proud of the district.
