Tenino School District No. 402 - School Board Director, District No. 1

School Districts - Thurston County is divided into nine separate school districts, each governed by a five-member board. The board’s responsibilities include: budget, policy development, curriculum approval, planning, and communications. School board directors delegate authority for day-to-day functions to professional staff; however, they may never delegate ultimate responsibility. Board members are elected in a nonpartisan general election by voters within that school district. They receive no salary. A board may approve a per diem compensation for its members for attending board meetings. In most districts, candidates must reside in the subdistrict for which they are seeking office. All candidates are elected by the voters of the entire school district.

All school district positions are nonpartisan.

Only voters residing within the Tenino School District will vote on this position.
Statements are written by the candidates, who are solely responsible for the contents therein.

Students thrive when the school district and the community work together. Communication is central to this success. I will utilize my professional background in public relations and policy to increase communication between the district and the community we serve. This can be accomplished by updating and enhancing our district website, increasing contact with local media outlets, and adopting a new governance format that clearly states the district goals and provides continual progress reports throughout the year.

As a third generation Tenino graduate with a child enrolled at Parkside, I understand the benefits of a small school. I will work as a team with my fellow board members to strengthen the unique community we enjoy.
