Under the direction of the Noxious Weed Coordinator and Lead Technician, conducts field inspections, surveys for noxious weeds, researches ownership of infested properties, works with land owners to develop control programs, posts properties and enters data into access database recording inspections and contacts with land owners. Provides one-on-one noxious weed education and information. Follows up on complaints of noxious weed infestations. Refers non-compliance to the Coordinator or Lead Technician. Work involves exposure to traffic hazards due to driving as well as physical ability to walk road rights-of-way, fields, shorelines etc.; Requires ability to bend and pull noxious weeds. Field work is performed outside in full range of weather conditions. Overtime is not a guarantee but may be required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Interpersonal: Ability to work independently, work tactfully and courteously with public and be reliable for attendance and completing assigned tasks accurately and efficiently.
Licenses/Certifications: MUST HAVE a current Washington State Driver’s License or have requested and obtained an appropriate accommodation and a WSDA Public Pesticide Operator/Consultant License. Necessary certifications for pesticide license include: Laws and Safety, Agricultural Weeds, Ornamental and Turf Weeds and Rights-of-Way. Applicants who do not possess a current Washington State Pesticide Operator/Consultant license with the necessary certifications will not be considered for interview.
Education: High School diploma or GED, one year of college level course work in agriculture related field desired.
Experience: Experience in vegetation management or weed control. Knowledge of Washington State Noxious Weed Control Law. Preference in selecting candidates will be given to those with previous experience as an employee in Noxious Weed Control.
