 Fundraising Heroics:

County Employee Breaks Her Own 10k Record

By her own admission, Official Court Reporter Sonya Wilcox may be “a terrible bowler,” but she’s a champ when it comes to fundraising for a good cause. Recently, Sonya raised about $10, 600 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Washington. The annual fundraising drive culminated in the Cops vs. Firefighters Bowl for Kid’s Sake event on Saturday, April 13 at Westside Lanes where Sonya’s ’s “Off the Record” team of friends and co-workers competed with 12 other county teams.

Over the course of several Saturdays (all on her own time), Sonya offered continuing education classes in court reporting in exchange for donations to Big Brothers Big Sisters. The five-hour classes took place in Snohomish County, Everett, Tacoma and Olympia. She also held raffles for donated items including a stenograph machine donated by fellow court reporter Kathy Beehler.

While more than $20,000 was raised for the event, Sonya topped all fundraisers for the second year in a row. She reports that the April 13th event was great fun, and encourages other county employees to form teams of friends, spouses and co-workers. Information is available at the Big Brothers Big Sisters Website.
