COUNTY ESTABLISHES HOT LINE FOR WATER AND SEWER CONCERNS

Last week’s earthquake may have damaged water wells or septic systems for some homes in Thurston County, and damage reports are still needed.  County officials are offering some assistance for those homeowners who have concerns.

ü      Those with septic and water concerns can call 754-4375 and leave a message with name and phone number.  A staff person will get back to the homeowner as soon as possible.

ü      Through March 16th, homeowners can have their well water analyzed at no charge for bacterial contamination of single-family wells.  Specimen bottles are available at the Environmental Health offices on the second floor of the Thurston County Courthouse building one.  They are also available at Yelm city Hall, Tenino City Hall, Rainier City Hall and at Rochester Organization of Families on Highway 12.

ü      Residents who have concerns about their structures can still contact the county for a building inspection.  The phone number is 754-3360.

ü      Thurston County Emergency Management officials are still compiling damage estimates and those who have not contacted local authorities with their reports are urged to do so.  The reports can be made by calling 754-3360.  Or the damage report can be filled out on-line at the Thurston County web site at www.co.thurston.wa.us.  Residents should also report damage to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at

            1-800-462-9029.

Thurston County Emergency Management wishes to thank all those who responded to last week’s earthquake and to thank county residents who remained calm in a difficult situation and reached out to help each other.
