56th Army Band
Six Pack Pretty
The I Corps Band was constituted on 12 October 1943 and activated in Sicily on 29 October 1943 as the Band, 9th Infantry Division. During the Band's long and proud history it served with distinction in WWII with campaign participation credit at Normandy, France, Rhineland, Ardenes-Alsace, and the Central European campaign. During the Vietnam War the Band Counteroffensive, Phases II, III, IV, V, VI, Tet Counteroffensive, Tet 69 Counteroffensive, and the Summer/Fall Campaign 1969.

In all, the Band has 13 campaign participation credits for World War II and Vietnam. The Band has received many decorations, most notable is the Meritorious Unit Commendation awarded by Presidential Order in 1968. Other awards are the Order of the Day of the Belgian Army for action at the Meuss River; Order of the Day of the Belgian Army for action in the Ardennes; Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Vietnam 1966-1968, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Vietnam 1969; Republic of Vietnam Civil Action Honor Medal, First Class, Vietnam 1966-1969, and the Army Commendation medal, Group Award, "For meritorious achievement while assigned to the 9th Infantry Division (Motorized) Band in support of Operation Desert Storm, the 9th Infantry Division (Motorized), I Corps, Fort Lewis, and the Pacific Northwest," 10 June 1991.

The band was activated as I Corps Band, 8 July 1991 and is recognized internationally as one of the leading military bands in the world, with over 600 performances annually. The I Corps Band/56th Army Band performs not only for military functions in Joint Base Lewis-McChord, but also provides musical support to the surrounding communities throughout the Pacific Northwest. In addition to the traditional marching and concert bands, specialized ensembles reflect the depth and diversity of this unique organization. These ensembles include the Brass Quintet, Woodwind Quintet, Jazz Combo, Rock Band, Brass Band, Dixie Band, and Full Big Jazz Band.

The I Corps Band/56th Army Band is truly are the "Heartbeat of America's Corps." Fightin' 56th.
