The giving of ribbons and the efforts to win a blue or a red or a white ribbon have been an important part of the Thurston County Fair long before it was officially "The Thurston County Fair".

In many families, participating and competing in the Fair each year is an important and planned for family tradition.  And whether it's the showing of a prize animal, the displaying a prize quilt or flower arrangement, or competing in one of the many other categories, collecting ribbons is and has always been an important part of being a fair participant.
