What is the Fair?
The mission of the Thurston County Fair is
to provide a community celebration that educates, promotes, and showcases the
agricultural, business, industry, and home life of Thurston County citizens of
all ages.
What Happens at the Fair?
The fair has many contests and
competitions for area residents to both participate in and see on display.
Events and exhibits range from home arts and photography to livestock and
commercial booths. Many community groups hold demonstrations and hands-on
activities. Kids' games, free musical entertainment, great food, fun carnival
rides, Youth Market Animal Sale, and petting farm are also highlights at the
fair.
The Fair is for You!
You are invited to exhibit in several categories including: arts &
crafts, photography, baking, sewing, collections, gardening, woodworking,
livestock, etc.
Whether you build model planes, shear sheep, or bake pies there is a category
for everyone! An Exhibitor's Guidebook is available on-line
and at the Fair office. To get started, pick up an Exhibitor's
Guide, it's easy and fun
to "show your stuff", and win ribbons and prizes at the fair.
Open Class, 4-H, or
FFA?
The fair is divided into three department
areas; Open Class, 4-H, and FFA. To determine the appropriate area for you to
enter in, read the descriptions below.
Open Class is
the department area that is open to anyone and everyone! All ages and skill levels can enter in
Open Class. Generally, there is no entry fee, but the animal areas require an
entry fee.
4-H is a
national youth organization run by Cooperative Extension, in partnership with
land grant universities, the Department of Agriculture, and county governments. Washington
State University Cooperative Extension has offices in every county in Washington
State. Youth Kindergarten through 19 years may exhibit as a 4-H member if they
are enrolled in 4-H with the Thurston County 4-H Office by May 1 of the current 4-H
year. There is no entry fee to exhibit in 4-H. To contact the WSU Cooperative
Extension, Thurston County office, call (360) 786-5445 ext. 7913 or e-mail at killeene@co.thurston.wa.us.
FFA is a
youth organization connected with the public school system. Only students
