BBBS mission is to help children and youth reach their potential through 
professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships.

Name of Program:  Community-Based 

Description: Volunteers are matched with youth ages 5-18 who meet once a week to do things in the community.

Length of Commitment:  2 hours per week; 12 months

Volunteer Requirements:  Female or male; background check; driving record; interview; car insurance; copy of ID; and 3 personal references.

Training/Orientation Requirements: One-on-one training

Name of Program:  Rochester School Based Mentoring 

Description: High school bigs mentoring youth who are selected by school personnel.

Target Population: Youth ages 5-18

Length of Commitment:  2 hours per week; 12 months

Volunteer Requirements:  Parental permission;  background check; and ability to get school approval to  leave grounds. 

Training/Orientation Requirements: Interview and overview of program with Site Coordinator.

Name of Program:  School Based Mentoring (Tumwater, Olympia, and North Thurston School Districts).

Description: Volunteers spend 1 hour per week mentoring a child at an elementary school.

Target Population: 7-12 years old

Length of Commitment:  1 hour per week; school year

Volunteer Requirements: Background check; and 2 references

Training/Orientation Requirements: Interview/training session

Name of Program:  Big Brothers Big Sisters at Tumwater Boys and Girls Club or Evergreen Villages Neighborhood Center

Description: Volunteer will mentor children weekly, afterschool at the Boys and Girls Club and/or Evergreen Villages Neighborhood Center

Target Population: 6-12 years old

Length of Commitment:  1 hour per week

Volunteer Requirements: Background check; and 2 references

Training/Orientation Requirements: Interview/training session

Name of Program:  Mentoring Youth in Foster Care

Description: One-on-one mentoring specifically for youth in foster care.

Target Population: grades 7-9

Length of Commitment:  4 hours per week; 4 days per month; 1 year

Volunteer Requirements: Background check and finger print; interview and training 

Training/Orientation Requirements: Monthly training

Name of Program:  Foster Grandparent Program
 
Description: Seniors provide one-on-one emotional support, mentoring, and tutoring.

Target Population: preschool -21 years old

Length of Commitment:  20 hours per week

Volunteer Requirements:  Low-income seniors, ages 60 and over - may receive a monetary stipend for helping at-risk or special needs youth. Seniors ages 55 and older and not low-income for any number of hours through our RSVP Foster Grandparent Program.

Training/Orientation Requirements:  40 hours pre-service training and 4 hours in-service training each month.

Name of Program:  Foster Grandparent Program Advisory Council
 
Length of Commitment:  10 hours per month

Volunteer Requirements:  Interest or experience in fund-raising in-kind donations, and/or proposal writing.

A non-profit agency serving at risk youth in the community.

Name of Program:  Foster Care to College Mentoring Program

Description: Coaching youth in foster care who want to graduate and explore post secondary educational options. Serves 10 counties in Region 6.

Target Population: 14-21 years old; current and former foster youth

Length of Commitment: 18 months

Volunteer Requirements: Background check; enjoy working with youth, motivational, mature, proactive, patient, good communicator, resourceful, persistent, good listener, ability to ask thoughtful questions, able to accurately record services provided to youth and access to automobile or public transportation.

Training/Orientation Requirements: Orientation and ongoing training designed to assist coaches with the tools, resources, and opportunities to support and enhance their coaching experience.

Name of Program:  High School Mentors

Description: Mentors needed to support individual students who have not passed one or more sections of the WASL.
Target Population: 16-18 years old
Length of Commitment: 1-2 hours per week; school year

Description: Mentors needed to be Senior Project Mentors to assist with senior projects. 
Target Population: Seniors
Length of Commitment: 15 hours over 18 week period
Volunteer Requirements: Background check and interview

Training/Orientation Requirements: 1 hour orientation

Description: Tutors that work with individual students to master reading or math skills.

Description: School based program for six elementary schools. Matches meet during lunch or in evenings during Community Access night at the school library.

Target Population: grades 4-6

Length of Commitment: 1-2 hours per week; school year
