our E-Updates
for more information.Recent Events

- Pertussis Immunization
Clinics - May through October 2012
- The Thurston County MRC supported the
Thurston County Public Health & Social Services
Department in responding to the Pertussis (whooping
cough) epidemic that is occurring in Thurston County
and Washington State. With assistance from
Washington State Department of Health, Group Health,
Olympia Union Gospel Mission, and countless others,
the Thurston County MRC has been able to stand up
multiple immunization clinics that served over 700
individuals.

- Paddle to Squaxin Tribal
Canoe Journey -
July 2012
- The Thurston County MRC was able to participate
in a once in a lifetime opportunity to provide First
Aid support for the Paddle to Squaxin Tribal Canoe
Journey. Every year the tribes of the
Northwest set out in late spring/early summer to
canoe to a tribal location. This year the
destination was the Squaxin Island Tribe in Shelton.
Swantown Marina in Thurston County was a canoe
landing location. This was an amazing event in
which to experience the rich cultural traditions
that are part of the Northwest.
- Thurston County Health Officer, Dr. Diana
Yu, created a picture slideshow of the event.

- Senior Games -
July 2012
- The Thurston County MRC was able to participate
as the First Aid Station during Track and Field
events for Senior Games held at Tumwater High
School. Participants came from all over the
Northwest to compete in various events and the MRC
was there to support them by providing First Aid to
spectators and participants. This was a great
opportunity to train MRC members and support those
who continue to lead active and healthy lifestyles.

- Back-to-School Immunization Clinic -
September 2011
- Group Health Cooperative in Olympia, WA - The
clinic was for children who needed immunizations for
school entry and attendance. This was a great
event where the MRC got to give back to the
community and practice a mass vaccination clinic in
case of an actual outbreak.

- NW Citizen Corps Expo Exercise - August 2011
- North Bend, WA - the Expo is an annual exercise
that offers volunteer disaster responders from MRC,
CERT and amateur radio the opportunity to practice
skills while working together in a realistic
exercise. This year the MRC stood up a Field
Treatment Site (FTS) and worked with the CERT Triage
system which would be used to prioritize and treat
patients.

- Senior Games - July 2011
- Thurston County, WA - Thurston County MRC
members provided first aid to participants and
spectators at the Track & Field and Soccer venues.
We expect to return again next year.
