Dead Bat with Rabies at Local Store

On Sept. 9, 2011 a dead bat was found inside the Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft Store in west Olympia.  Two customers discovered the bat on a shelf in the store’s Halloween section.

The bat was tested and found to be positive for rabies. 

Who needs to call the Health Department?

• Customers of the west Olympia Jo-Ann’s store who touched the bat found inside the store.

• The time frame would be customers who shopped inside between Sept. 2, 2011 and Sept. 9, 2011.

• People who walked, shopped, or worked at Jo-Ann’s are not at risk unless they came in contact with the bat.
