Eligibility How To Apply Resources 

 

Thank you for your interest in the Veterans’ Assistance Fund!  

The Thurston County Veterans’ Assistance Fund helps eligible veterans or family members with  rent, mortgage, power, water, garbage, food, bus passes and burial. 

Eligibility:

  • Honorably discharged veteran or eligible family member of a veteran who meets the definition of veteran as defined by law.
  • Resident of Washington State for at least six months immediately prior to application.
  • Resident of Thurston County for at least 31 days immediately prior to application.  
  • Income eligible.
  • Able to provide documentation proving eligibility including verification of need.

How to Apply:  

Telephone the Veterans’ Assistance Fund to schedule an eligibility appointment and find out what documents to bring to the appointment. 

Examples of documentation needed to prove eligibility: One (1) item from each of the five categories listed below are needed to prove eligibility for assistance.

   VETERAN   

  • DD214
  • Armed Forces Reserve or National Guard-NGB Form 22 & Discharge letter/orders

  WASHINGTON STATE RESIDENT-AT LEAST SIX MONTHS PRIOR TO APPLICATION 

  • Washington State Driver's License or identification issued over six months ago.
  • Utilized Veteran's Assistance Fund previous year.
  • Utility bill from over six months ago.
  • Mail from an official government source dated over six months ago.
  • Homeless shelter verification.

  THURSTON COUNTY RESIDENT-AT LEAST 31 DAYS PRIOR TO APPILICATION

  • Washington State Driver's License or Identification issued over 31-days ago.
  • Utility or other bill.
  • Mail from an official government source.
  • Homeless shelter verification.

  FAMILY SIZE

  • Spouse-marriage license.
  • Dependent children of veteran, under 18 years of age - birth certificates
  • Widow/Widower - marriage license and death certificate.

  INCOME-EXAMPLES

  • Pay stubs from last 31 days.
  • Current year award letter from government programs.
  • Unemployment record.
  • Any funds coming in the household.
